LCK 2022 Brief Report: GEN Sits On Top, DRX Dismantle DWG KIA

LCK 2022 Jane Chauffe

With only a few weeks to go until the end of the regular season in the 2022 LCK Summer, mid-range teams such as DRX, KDF and KT Rolster are vying for their starting spot by showcasing unusual strategies without hesitation. On the other hand, teams like GEN and T1 are in a fierce competition for the top spot before the summer season heads to the playoff stage.

Today, GEN was in the spotlight against Liiv Sandbox to maintain the top spot while DWG went up against DRX to secure third place heading into next week. For those who haven’t had enough time to watch the two series, here’s a summary of the third day of the sixth week in the K-League.

The series’ opening match between GEN and Liiv SANDBOX saw Lee Chae “Prince” Hwan and his teammates struggle to choke the map away from their opponents, but they completed the match with a better kill and KDA score. LSB not only survived until the late stage, but they also handed over the lead at certain times during the match, especially in the middle of the stage.

On the other side, GEN was chasing skirmishes around the lower path, hoping to find some advantage that could boost their formation. In the end, GEN secured neutral targets, controlled map visibility, and demonstrated her exceptional overall play. Jeong โ€œChovyโ€ Ji-hoon led his team to victory with his powerful LeBlanc performance, finishing the match 7/3/3.

The second game was about the dominance of Park โ€œRulerโ€ Jae-hyuk. It was obvious that Liiv Sandbox shouldn’t be allowed to pick his favorite playoff champion. Hoping to respond to Jinx in the late game by playing around Aphelios, LSB was aiming for a head-to-head skirmish. But what they forgot is the difference in talents between the two teams. Morgana was first chosen in the location of the jungle, and Han “Peanut” Wang-ho took control of the map, using her varied skill set in the best possible way. GEN wasted no time in finishing the match and claiming his fourth win in a row.

DRX, in the second series of the day, beat Damwon KIA 2-1 to climb to fifth as Kwangdong Freecs are now knocked out of the qualifying places after losing to T1 yesterday.

GEN will face competition Hanwha Life Esports on Sunday to capture another perfect week as T1 face Fredit BRION today to extend their massive winning streak to seven matches. You can watch the remaining matches on the official LCK Twitch Channel.
