2024 Thunderbolts MCU Movie Sets

The next team of Marvel heroes (or are they villains?) is getting ready to make their debut. From a jam-packed Marvel Studio panel at San Diego Comic-Con, studio head Keven Feige revealed that “Thunderbolts” will close Phase 5 of the MCU, with a release date set for July 26, 2024.

News of “Thunderbolts” in development first emerged last month, with Jake Schreier, who previously directed 2012’s “Robot and Frank” and 2015’s “Paper Towns” on board. Eric Pearson, who penned Marvel’s Black Widow, is slated to write the screenplay, with Feige producing.

Created by writer Kurt Busick and artist Mark Bagley, The Thunderbolts debuted in the 1997 issue of “The Incredible Hulk,” before releasing in their self-titled comic book later that year. Originally presented as a team of heroes banding together after the Avengers were declared dead, a twist revealed that they were actually a superhero team in disguise, trying to conquer the world. Over the years, the team has gone through various iterations, but they are always the most gruesome members of the Marvel Universe.

Several MCU characters have the potential to appear in the movie “Thunderbolts”. The group’s first and most famous leader was Baron Zemo, played by Daniel Brühl in the MCU. Other members of the “Thunderbolts” throughout their history include: Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Abomination (Tim Roth) and John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). Even some heroic figures, such as Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) or Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), have been part of the team at various stages in its history.
