Amid comparisons to the office, Quinta Brunson of Abbott Elementary explains why the simulated format was a good fit for the show.

When it comes to viewers comparing her show to The DeskAnd the Abbott ElementaryQuinta Bronson doesn’t buy them often. She thinks they’re two distinctly different shows, apart from the fact that they’re workplace comedy. The comparisons were so strong, though, that her co-star, Tyler James Williams, could no longer watch the sitcom on NBC. But one thing both sitcoms have in common is their signature style – parody. Now, amid constant comparisons, Bronson explained why the simulated format was a good fit for her presentation.

The Abbott Elementary The creator originally designed the sitcom as an animated series before pairing it with the desk Executive Producer Randall Einhorn. But even before he was on board, the series’ satirical style was always something that was on the creators’ minds. Bronson opened up LimitDuring which she explained that it makes sense to portray school life as a documentary:

Mockumentary has always been a part of the show. I knew that parodies would give way to this story, because I don’t think parodies should be used without reason. I think there must be a reason. And you felt that the best way to cover this school was better than a documentary? I think documentaries are great. What do different people bring to the camera, who is trying to be in front of the camera and what is actually going on? And I thought this was a great way for these characters.
