Spoiler Warning: The following article contains major spoilers from the first four seasons of Weird things. Please go back to your normal programming if you are not yet alert.
From the beginning of the series all the way to Weird things Season four, volume two finished, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was at the center of some of the show’s most intense and emotional scenes. Whether he’s disappearing in the final moments of the series’ summer 2016 premiere, known as “The Boy Who Came Back to Life,” or being at the center of one of the show’s biggest fan theories, Byers’ youngest boy has had a fantastic journey so far.
But with everything that happened to all Weird things Characters – longtime favorites and newer additions – It’s easy to lose sight of everything that happened to Will Byers over the show’s first four seasons. So, while we look forward to the highly anticipated Weird things Season 5, let’s also take a step back and see how the tormented character got to this point…
He will be kidnapped by the Demogorgon Riding Home from D&D (Season 1)
The life Will Byers lived before his journey began Weird things It was only briefly explored in the opening minutes of the show’s first season. What started as an ordinary night of playing Dungeons and Dragons with his best friends quickly turns into a nightmare for the little boy when he is kidnapped by a mysterious character called “Demogorgon”.
After Dustin Henderson (Gatien Matarazzo) races in one of his comics, Will rides his bike through the woods near Hawkins National Laboratory, where untold horrors are revealed through harrowing experiments. One of those horrors, the aforementioned Demogorgon, followed the little boy home, chased him through the house, and then escorted him to what would later be known as the Upside Down. And this was before the credits started rolling…
Will is rescued from upside down but the damage is not undone (season 1)
In the Weird things At the end of the first season, Will Byers is rescued from Upside Down by his mother, Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hawkins Police Chief Jim Hooper (David Harbor) in one of the show’s most emotional scenes (the flashbacks of Hopper’s daughter’s death are still heartbreaking.) six years later). First it seemed like the saga was over for the little boy and he could go back to living his normal life, not out of the woods yet.
In the final scene of the season, when he was celebrating Christmas with his mother and older brother, Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), he went to the bathroom to “wash his hands” when a slug vomited and was briefly carried upside down. But this wouldn’t be the last time he would come back…
He will briefly return to the Arcade Upside Down (Season 2).
Captures nearly a year after the events of the first set of richly detailed episodes Weird things Season 2 wasted no time bringing the show’s heroes back into action, including Will Byers. Although still haunted by his Upside Down experience, Will tries to live as normal a life as possible, but is soon reminded of his past during a short, terrifying episode in the local arcade.
While his friends were arguing with the arcade operator, something caught Will’s attention and distracted him from the conversation before he was taken back to the Upside Down. But, unlike the Season 1 finale that only saw him go back for a moment, this time Will had been there for an extended period of time and was able to interact with the twisted world.
The Mind Flayer Possesses Will Byers (season 2)
Will Byers briefly dipped his toes in the murky waters of the Upside Down several times early in the Weird things The second season, but his relationship with the Mind Flayer will reach new heights in the third episode. When searching for D’Artagnan with his school friends, Will is once again transported to the dark dimension, but only this time there will be dire consequences.
Listening to the ill-fated Bob Newby (Sean Astin) and taking his words seriously, he takes a stand against the Mind Flyer, but instead of backing down, the mysterious entity possesses the young boy. This will start another journey for Will, one that will continue through the rest of the season.
Mind Flyer Burned From Will (Season 2)
In the Weird things At the end of Season 2, Joyce, Jonathan, and Nancy (Natalia Dyer) attempt to close the portal to the Upside Down without having to kill Will to send the Mind Flayer package. This plan involved exposing the young boy to extreme levels of heat as if they were trying to sweat from the virus.
Although the plan seemed to work at first, the possessed Will began to strangle his mother as she approached him on the bed. That was until Nancy Was stabbed with a hot rod that caused the entity to leave Will’s body, once again showing that the creatures from the Upside Down weren’t fans of intense fire or heat.
Will and Mike will argue about maturation (season 3).
Weird things Season 3 was the point at which the growing split between Will Byers and his best friend, Mike Wheeler, began to emerge, especially in Episode 3 when the two brawls after Mike and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) were more interested in their girlfriends. Dungeons and Dragons campaign will be created.
In the Wheelers’ garage, Will opens his heart to his childhood best friends about how he ruined their “party” due to his infatuation with him and the other boys’ infatuation with their girlfriends, meaning he felt neglected by their mature desires. The scene became even sadder when Mike asked Will if he honestly thought they would stay in his basement and play games for the rest of their lives, with Will replying to that. This incredibly heartbreaking scene ended with Will riding his bike from the garage cover into the massive rainstorm that was falling over Hawkins.
The Byers And Eleven leaves Hawkins for California (season 3)
The Weird things Season 3 did not disappoint and did a great job preparing the ultimate extension for the celebratory Netflix series. After all that happened in the Starcourt Mall and about Hawkins in general, the ending ended all the major stories before splitting the core group up and having them move to different locations across the country (and the world if you include Hopper jumping through the gate and ending in Soviet Russia). This included Al Byers and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who had left their Midwest town for sunny California.
This created one of the show’s most emotional moments (which became even more emotional with eleven reading a letter from Hopper that was discovered after he was presumed dead) and put Will on the next stage on his path of growth and self-discovery. Grief and hopeful, Will and the rest of his friends are left looking to an uncertain future where neither government agents nor creatures from another dimension will seek them out.
I’ll Give Mike a Plate (Season 4)
There have been a lot of questions about Will Byers and his sexuality a long time ago Weird things Season 3 and those questions popped up over and over again when fans watched the two-part fourth season in the summer of 2022. Much of this came to a head in the penultimate episode of Season 2 back in time, when Will Mike presented the plate he was carrying with him on their trip from California To find eleven. But, when he showed the painting, Will told his friend Eleven had ordered it, which seemed to be nothing more than a poorly veiled cover story.
During this incredibly touching dialogue, Will talked about how Eleven needed Mike and always will, but it was all too easy to spot the fact that he wasn’t talking about Mike’s girlfriend, but instead, himself, and his feelings for his childhood friend. Lots of emotion.
Will senses Vicna’s presence after the monsters retreat (season 4).
The final main event in Will Byers’ story (for now at least) came in the closing minutes of Weird things Season 4, Volume 2 ending after the main characters are all reunited after the retreat of Vecna. Soon, what had started as a cheerful reunion turned into something unknown and sinister as everyone began to learn that something wasn’t right. And who was the first to notice this? Will Byers who felt a tingling in the back of his neck again.
What this means to move forward in Will’s story is just one of the big questions Weird things Hopefully Season 5 will answer before the show ends. Does this mean that ‘the boy who came back to life’ will have a bigger role in the final battle against Vecna and the Upside Down? We have to wait and see…
With only one season left before the incredibly popular Netflix series credits it for the last time, expect to see more major action in Will Byers’ story before all is said and done. If you want to relive those moments before, you can Stream Weird things on Netflix. (Opens in a new tab)
