Adam Vogelson leaves STX for the role of Lionsgate Motion Picture group

The studio announced Monday that Adam Vogelson has been appointed vice president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

He joined the studio from STX Entertainment, where he was in charge of the struggling company’s motion picture collection. At STX, Fogelson launched the successful “Bad Moms” franchise, as well as the commercially successful “Hustlers.” Other Fogelson-supported films include “Molly’s Game,” which earned an Academy Award nomination for its screenplay, as well as bombshells like “The Happytime Murders” and “UglyDolls.” STX was originally intended to make mid-budget comedies, thrillers, and other genres that the studios had abandoned in favor of franchises and comic book prices, but the results were a mixed bag, and streaming services made many of the same type of films that the studio was trying to make theatrical proposals. . Fogelson and STX have always maintained that they kept costs in check and that most of the movie slate remained profitable.

After an unsuccessful IPO attempt and a failed merger with Eros, STX was acquired by Najaf companies. She’s hoping to get her stride back, but it looks like Vogelson won’t be part of this comeback effort.

In his new role, Vogelson will report to Joe Drake, head of the studio’s motion picture group. He will oversee worldwide marketing and distribution for Lionsgate.

Prior to his leadership of STX, Vogelson served as president of Universal Pictures from 2009 until October 2013. During his tenure, Universal released songs such as “Bridesmaids”, “Identity Thief”, “Les Misérables” and “Despicable Me”. Vogelson joined Universal in 1998, starting as Vice President of Creative Advertising and rising to Head of Marketing and Distribution in 2007. He has established himself as one of the leading experts in selling movies to the public.

In a statement praising Fogelson’s hiring, Drake described him as “one of the most experienced CEOs in our industry.” He added that Fogelson’s expertise will be invaluable as Lionsgate prepares for new parts of the “Hunger Games”, “Dirty Dancing” and “John Wick” franchises.

“We are looking forward to receiving [Adam’s] Respected skills, experience and leadership.” “His longstanding relationships with the most creative collaborators in the industry will prove invaluable as we focus on our next list.”

Fogelson’s appointment will begin on September 1. The deadline was first reported with Fogelson’s appointment.
