The New York Yankees are in buy mode and can cash in on a few Miami Marlins trading chips.

New York Yankees Buyer. The Miami Marlins seller. Could it be more clear?

The Yankees are positioned to do everything from several minor moves to a huge trade. They won’t be able to cut something on the Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton scale for the next few days. However, they can definitely add a few pieces.

With everyone, except for Sandy Alcantara, apparently, what business chips from Miami should the Yankees target?

New York Yankees trade target against the Marlins: Pablo Lopez

Well, this is an easy hub away from Alcantara. Pablo Lopez is another Miami player who has had a great year. Now 7-5 to 20 starts with 3.03 ERA, he’d be someone the Yankees could have for a few more years. They have a couple of notable free agents who are out of the books after this season. Jameson Tellon is one of them. Lopez could be an easy successor.

Lopez isn’t content with riding the wave in 2022. He’s been quietly productive for several years now. After starting 82 major leagues, he’s 25-26 with a 3.77 ERA. At 26 years old, he’s probably still the best in the future.

Marlins could bring in so much of an advantage to Lopez that his availability could easily make him a top five commercial candidate from a starting bowler perspective. Instead of dealing with the Cincinnati Reds and acquiring Luis Castillo, the Yankees could contact the Marlins and see what it would take to get to Lopez instead. They’ll be able to keep it longer anyway, so it might be worth the larger asking price.
