Alabama football offers a recruiting statement to Georgia State Ohio

Alabama football earned a major commitment on Wednesday, beating Georgia and Ohio State for the safety of five-star Caleb Downs.

Georgia may be the reigning National Champion but Alabama and Nick Saban won’t have a cool night on that good night and let them keep that title without a fight.

The battle between the contenders takes place on the recruiting track as it does on the field each season.

That’s why Alabama celebrated a big win on Wednesday with Caleb Downs’ five-star commitment.

Caleb Downs committed to football in Alabama over Georgia, Ohio

The Crimson Tide fished Downs outside of Houston, Georgia where he attended Mill Creek High School.

Safety is ranked #12 on the 247Sports boat, ranking first in its location and state rankings.

Downs comes from a strong origin. His father, Gary, played a run for the Giants, Broncos, and Hawks. His uncle, Dre Bly, was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Lions and a Super Bowl with the Rams. His brother, Josh, is a wide receiver from the All-ACC team in North Carolina.

Football runs in Downes’ blood, so it’s no surprise that sports analyst Andrew Ivins praised 247 for “check in[ing] All right boxes.” He “has a high football IQ” and “is seen by coaches in high school as not only a team captain, but also a winner.”

In 2021, the 6-foot, 185-pound Safety had 77 assists, two tackles for a loss, a sack, 11 passes, a forced trip, and five interceptions.

Downs is the highest prospect in the 2023 Alabama class and third commitment in the top 25 national chances.

Getting it is a big deal. Keeping him away from college football contenders like Georgia and Ohio State is a huge plus, too.
