The Houston Astros are said to be interested in moving out of the position, despite their rivalry for the post-season berth.
The MLB trade deadline is August 2, giving teams within reach of the post-season berth a chance to boost their rosters. The Houston Astros qualify as one of those teams, as they came out of the All-Star break and defeated the New York Yankees with two heads to move up the MLS standings. But according to a recent report, the Astros are already open for sale on one position.
According to ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Bassan, several GMs said the Astros are one team that is open to listening to the commercial offerings of their controllable starting pitchers. Bassan notes that they have about “six primary Premier League bowlers,” including Lance McCullers Jr., who is working his way back from injury.
Bassan wrote that of all their shooters, Jose Orquidi is “the most obvious candidate for a move.”

Passan notes that Urquidy enters arbitration after this season and does not become a free agent until the end of the 2025 campaign. He has been setting up good numbers since his debut in 2019.
With 18 starts, Urquidy has a 3.93 ERA, 1,232 WHIP, 9-4 win-loss record, 77 strikes, and 22 walks over 100.2 innings.
Christian Javier and Luis Garcia are other names that Bassan has originated, but noted that both would “cost more than anyone” in return.
It remains to be seen if Astro makes a move from one of his controllable starting pitchers. It can help them reinforce other attitudes of need. They are in such a good position in the second half of this season that they officially performed a tie-breaker for the Yankees when it came to the post-season rankings.
