WWE announces location and dates for WrestleMania 40

WWE returns to the City of Brotherly Love. As I mentioned first before Philadelphia InquirerWWE will bring WrestleMania to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 6 and April 7, 2024. This will be the 40th installment of the Immortals Show and will take off from Lincoln Financial Field, the home field of the Philadelphia Eagles. This will be the first time Philly has hosted WrestleMania since 1999, which was “Stone Cold” Steve Austin defeating The Rock for the WWF Championship.

WrestleMania 40 will be the fifth consecutive installment of the premiere professional wrestling event to be held over two days. WWE first tried out an entire weekend of WrestleMania in 2020, due to the empty arena nature of this particular show. With pandemic precautions still being taken for the limited capacity of WrestleMania 37 the following year, WWE re-introduced it over two days and hasn’t looked back since. WrestleMania 38 this past April in Dallas was the first edition of the event to have full capacity across two shows, and it resulted in an unbeatable total of 131,372 fans at the event over the weekend.

As evidenced by his number, WrestleMania 40 will be another benchmark for the greatest stage of them all, and history suggests this could be another historic show. Previous WrestleManias that fell in the 10’s have been home to memorable moments like Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels’ ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship (WrestleMania X), Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship (WrestleMania XX), and Brock Lesnar defeating The Undertaker to officially end the streak ( WrestleMania XXX).

Coincidentally, the last two WrestleManias to fall at intervals of 10 were topped by a triple threat match. Chris Benoit defeated Triple H and Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XX for the World Heavyweight Championship, while Daniel Bryan defeated Batista and Randy Orton at WrestleMania XXX to become the WWE Heavyweight Champion.
