Cubs has a lot of players who shouldn’t be on the list after the trade deadline
The Chicago Cubs will likely sell a lot of their good bits on Deadline Trade, including Willson Contreras and Ian Happ. Their current problem is that their first team in the minor league doesn’t have a lot of talent either. Their Triple-A team consists of 43-51.
Cubs have a decent ranch system overall (four odds in MLB.com’s top 100) but only one of them (Cubs top player Brennen Davis) flaunts a High-A ball. In general, they lack talent and depth in the high secondary tournaments. In the trade, this is what the cubs really need to look for.

1) Player: Andrelton Simmons
Andrelton Simmons used to be a great player. A lot of that was due to his world class defense but as long as he gave a proper attack, he would be a great player. In fact, he got the MVP votes in three seasons despite only getting OPS+ in those 90, 102 and 108 seasons. But now with the Cubs, Simmons wasn’t very good in defense and was terrible in attack.
Simmons, who turns 33 in September, is currently on the hit list but when he was healthy, he hit 173/.244/.187 with an OPS+24 in 34 games. Defensively, he has 4 DRS on the short stop but -1 on second base. In 2017, he had one of the best defensive seasons in MLB history with 41 DRS.
With his health (or lack thereof), lack of attacking, and declining defense (while still above the league average), the Cubs need to give their playing time to someone younger who can be part of their future plans.
