Olivia Dejong has joined the cast of Cooper Raiff’s The Trashers.
The deal comes on the heels of DeJonge’s breakout performance in “Elvis,” where she played Priscilla Presley, the wife of the King of Rock. The film crossed $200 million globally last weekend, becoming one of the rare films geared toward older audiences to achieve commercial success. The performance also earned DeJonge some favors from critics and award watchers, with USA Today hailing her as a “spot on” and Edward Douglas’ Gold Derby’s singled out her “emotional scenes with [co-star Austin] Butler” and described her work as “remarkable”.
In The Trashers, DeJonge will join a band that includes Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza”) and David Harbor of Stranger Things fame. Details remain confidential, but the film is said to follow the rise and fall of Jimmy Gallant, a trash tycoon linked to the Genovese crime family. It’s Raiff’s follow-up to “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” Sundance’s hit romantic drama, which posted a $15 million sale for Apple. Rafe also directed the popular 2020 movie “Shithouse”.
Filming for “The Trashers” is set to begin this fall in New Jersey. Many studios are already spinning around in hopes of acquiring the distribution rights.
DeJonge has also appeared in the M. Night Shyamalan horror film “The Visit,” as well as the HBO limited series “The Staircase,” and the Netflix drama series “The Society.” Other credits include the TNT series “Will” and the films “Josie & Jack” and “Stray Dolls”. Represents CAA DeJonge.
