A16 Bionic vs. A15 Bionic – What does that mean for the new iPhone 14

When Apple releases a new iPhone each fall, it’s generally been able to count on the fact that the new phone, regardless of model, will feature the company’s latest portable silicone. Given the advantage Apple has with its chips over competing phones, choosing any new iPhone means you’ll get one of the best phones for performance, whether you’re getting the smallest iPhone mini or the most powerful iPhone Pro Max. Of course, you would think that the transition of the A16 Bionic versus the A15 Bionic for the phone’s release this fall would mean the same thing.

But that may not be the case with the launch of the iPhone 14. For the first time ever, Apple is rumored to be using different chipsets for its different phones. Rumors are that the latest A16 Bionic will power the iPhone 14 Pro models – the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The new, less expensive iPhones coming out this fall will instead use a different version of the A15 Bionic chip that Apple introduced as part of the iPhone 13 release in 2021.
