Riverdale Showrunner breaks shock final twist

CW’s fans Riverdale I didn’t really know what to expect in the Season 6 finale. The season’s penultimate episode looked somewhat like the season finale as Archie and the company defeated their all-season opponent, Percival Pickens and left only one major threat to the end: Billy’s Comet, set on a collision course with Riverdale thanks to one finalist spelling Percival. But while the stage has been set for a truly horrific apocalypse season, there was a massive twist in the final moments of the episode that not only sets the series up for a crazy final season, it changes everything we know about Riverdale and now, showcasing Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa breaks the evolution of the game.

Warning: spoilers for the sixth season finale of Riverdale less.

In the end, Cheryl manages to stop Bailey’s comet from destroying Riverdale thanks to her being super powerful with a combination of all the different powers of her friends. However, while this succeeded in stopping the comet, it also had an unexpected side effect, sending Riverdale to a different timeline. That’s right, the Riverdale heroes are back in high school — and back in 1955. Consider it a reverse time jump, if you will.

“He came from two places,” said Aguirre-Sacasa. “At different points in the season, we talked about what last season could have been, and a lot of people were very nostalgic when the kids were in high school.” EW. “KJ Apa told me at one point, ‘Man, remember when we were in high school, and I was on the soccer team? And Mark Bedowitz on The CW had a conversation with John Goldwater and said something like, “Do you remember when the kids were in high school?” We talked about it in the room, and we were kind of, oh, my God, can we go back and bring everyone back to high school? But we did it. They had been in high school for over four years. It would seem like a repetition. So, we were in trouble.”

He continued, “I felt like all we were going to do for season seven was kind of a lesser version of our high school years. But thinking about nostalgia and then coming out of our super, legendary, Stephen King-like season, we knew we needed to make our last season really special.” One thing everyone can agree on is that when we have our characters in their famous comic strip outfits from the fifties, people are happy. [Sprouse] He was so glad he never had to wear a beanie again, but he said to me, “But, man, I’ll wear this crown until the day I die.” So, we thought: What if we went back to high school, but instead of high school nowadays, we made it high school in the 1950s which is what a lot of people think of Archie’s characters.”

Of course, a jump this time around also creates a different experience for the characters in a sense, including relationships – which might be a bit frustrating for some fans considering that the season finale saw Archie and Betty get involved. Aguirre-Sacasa said they haven’t started working on things yet, but they now have a blank slate to work with.

“The writers room hasn’t even started yet, but one of the things we’ve talked about is that our characters, none of them are in relationships yet. So, we can tell those stories for the first time — first kiss, first crush, first heartbreak.” “So, when we meet them, none of them are in deep tormenting relationships that we know and love with them. It’s little more than a blank slate. What that means is where to go, no one knows yet.”

Riverdale It will return for its seventh and final season in 2023.
