Steam is making a big change in games that have won critics

Valve is about to make a rather noticeable change to Steam that will affect some of the most popular games on the platform. For those who have ever visited Steam, they will likely be greeted with dozens of graphics and ads highlighting some of the best-reviewed games on the platforms. And while these graphics may help you better understand how acclaimed some of these titles are, Valve is now working to get to where these award-winning images will no longer be allowed.

In a move that will take root on September 1, Valve clarified that developers and publishers will no longer be able to include review results, prizes, or other prizes on game-related images. The reason for this is that Valve states that some of the promotional images have become so crowded that users can’t even decide which games are called, in some cases. In addition, Steam already offers a place on each game’s page to promote these achievements without having to display them on banner images.

“Our goal is to make it as straightforward as possible for customers to find games to buy and play on Steam,” Valve explained in a recent conversation. Blog post. “Recently we’ve noticed more text, award logos, and even review results being included by game developers in graphic assets images. This has made us realize that our guidelines haven’t been as clear as they should be. As a result, due to clearly defined rules, we’ve seen additions to graphic assets create A confusing and even inaccurate customer experience at times.”

Valve clarified that developers will still be able to use certain text in logo images to promote new updates or expansions that games have received in the future. However, titles that continue to offer awards or review results “may have limits of visibility within the Steam Store and will be ineligible to display at official Steam sales and events.” In short, Steam looks for game images just to represent the game itself moving forward, and nothing more than that.

How do you feel about this upcoming change to Steam as a platform? Do you think this is a needed change, or is the Valve market really good as it is? Let me know what you think either down in the comments or hit me up on Twitter at Trustworthy.
