Lupine Star Omar Sy leads John Woo The Killer Remake

New to the hit Netflix series lupineacclaimed actor Omar Sy has been chosen to play the title role in director John Woo’s upcoming remake/reshoot of his thriller, The Killer. Limit It brings news of the news from Universal confirming that Sy will be starring in the segment for the film, which is currently slated to release exclusively on Peacock in 2023. Woo will return to direct the film alongside producing partner Lori Tilkin. Details of what the new release will include have not been revealed, with Peacock only confirming the news in a sentence earlier this summer, writing: “Renowned action composer John Woo is returning to re-imagining and directing his own classics.”

The original version of the movie Woo was released in 1989, starring Chow Yun-Fat as a blind killer mistakenly mistaken for a singer and later taken on a mission to help pay for her recovery and surgery, all while the cop is on his tail and has developed an obsession with his tactics. Danny Lee, Sally Yeh and Kenneth Tsang also starred in the Hong Kong action movie.

Development on a remake of The Killer has been happening sporadically for several decades with the upcoming film seemingly combining several versions of the script that have been surfacing for a few years. LimitA report on the film reveals that the reimagining script dates back to a number of writers including 10 Cloverfield Lynn Matthew Stoeken and Josh Campbell, Welcome to Punch’s Eran Creevy, and 42 writers Brian Helgeland. Woo wrote the original screenplay for the film solo.

Upon confirmation of the impending arrival of the remake of The Killer, Universal announced it along with a pair of other films. Among them is Shooting Stars, a film described as an “origin story” of LeBron James, which tells the story of his time as a high school basketball player and his journey to the NBA. SpringHill James and Maverick Carter produced the project with Universal. Another is the upcoming Praise This, starring Chloe Bailey as the newest member of the community church choir pushing its members in a powerful musical direction whose engagement with a disrespectful hip-hop star could launch or jeopardize her own music career. All three films are scheduled to arrive in 2023.

“We know people are joining Peacock to watch movies, so we’re constantly adding more to serve fans,” said Kelly Campbell, President of Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer and International, NBCUniversal. “Together with Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, we are excited to bring new, exclusive and original films next year to our customers as well as the legendary Universal Pictures films and beloved franchises now streaming.”
