The Samsung Unpacked event is coming next week, and Samsung is expected to unveil two foldable devices in the form of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, Galaxy Buds Pro 2, and the next generation of Galaxy watches.
And now we have a lot more details about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Thanks to this new leak, we have a really good idea of what gives the latter model its “Pro” label, as well as some additional information about the regular model.
Galaxy Watch 5 Pro: Big and Powerful with 80 Hours Battery
The latest information comes from the German website WinFuture (Opens in a new tab) Which outline the main specifications of the upcoming Samsung smartwatches. As previously revealed, the Pro model will only come in 45mm size (it looks like the base Galaxy Watch 5 will be available in 40 and 44mm sizes), and has a large 1.36-inch 450 x 450 AMOLED display.
So what makes it professional other than size? Well, it will obviously have a hard sapphire glass and titanium case, but much more important is the thick battery. Interestingly, this was previously thought to be 572mAh – itself a 60% upgrade over the 361mAh cell found in the larger 44mm Galaxy Watch 4 – but the latest report says it’s even bigger, Where it reaches 590 mAh. This will apparently translate into a runtime of 80 hours on a single charge.
This appears to come at a cost. This could be a massive smartwatch with a thickness of 10.5mm and tipping the scales at 46.5g. Not only does the standard Galaxy Watch 4 weigh twice as much as the standard 40mm (25.9g), but the iPhone 13 Pro Max is 7.65mm thick to put the width into perspective.
Galaxy Watch 5: Sizes, Battery, and Chipset
Meanwhile, the regular Galaxy Watch 5 will be lighter in weight, coming in at 28.7 and 33.5 grams for the 40 and 44 mm versions, respectively. They’ll also be a little thinner, at 9.8mm, but still get a modest battery upgrade over the previous generation, at 285mAh and 410mAh.
The Galaxy Watch 4 offers 247mAh or 361mAh depending on the size purchased, and apparently Samsung will claim that the boosted battery will provide up to 50 hours of battery life.
Both the regular and Pro watches will keep the same Samsung Exynos W920 chipset as the previous generation, and the wearables can have up to 16GB of internal storage, with eSIM support on LTE variants. As previously revealed, the rotating bezel – a popular USP of previous Samsung wearables – has been completely removed for all models.
