Zabdel “Zap” Judah was born on October 27, 1977 in Brooklyn, New York. He started boxing at the age of six.
career path career path
After setting an amateur record of 110-5, Zab Judah turned pro in 1996. Four years later he won the IBF Junior Middleweight title in 2000 by eliminating Jan Piet Bergman in the fourth round. Zap Gouda retained the ITF title 5 times before losing to Kostya Tszyu in the second round of TKO in 2001. The judge, who stopped the fight before the bell, was attacked by an angry Judas. This resulted in a six-month suspension and a $75,000 fine. But with his 2003 win over DeMarcus Corley, Jodha snatched the WBO Junior Welterweight title he had defended only once before moving to the Welterweight Championship. In 2004, he lost to Cory Spinks by unanimous decision, a defeat he would have avenged 10 months later by defeating Spinks by knockout in the ninth round. Another unanimous decision loss would come in 2006 when Judas was defeated by Carlos Baldomer after displaying unsportsmanlike behavior in prequels. Zab punched Carlos in the thigh instead of touching the gloves, and this set the tone for a fight that Zab is just setting for a profitable match to be followed by WBC Light Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Despite the loss, the Mayweather fight would still take place on April 8, 2006 in which Floyd Mayweather Jr. was set to earn at least $5 million, and Zap secured $1 million plus a percentage of profits over $7 million.

The match started off strong before Mayweather took over. With about 10 seconds remaining in the 10th round, Judas hit Mayweather with a low kick and followed right to the back of his head. Two camps of fighters entered the ring in an all-out battle. The ring was cleared, and the fight resumed in the final two rounds to match a unanimous decision in Mayweather’s favour.
After that, the governor was withheld so the penalties could be considered under review. Zap Gouda was fined $350,000 and lost his license for a year. Zap reclaimed the FIVB welterweight title again in 2011, but his career ended in 2019 due to a brain haemorrhage during a stoppage loss to Cletus Selden.
During his career, Zab Judah won 44 out of 56 fights, 30 of them by knockout.

Zap’s father and coach, Yoel Gouda, is a six-time boxing champion and a ninth degree black belt. He has ten brothers and four sisters. Chest five of his brothers also, three of them – Josiah, Daniel and Joseph Judah – are fighting professionally. Zap Judah also volunteers to teach a nursing assistant class and helps with an adult day care that treats dementia patients.
