Amazon has confirmed that it will be holding the PS5 restock for later today (Monday, August 8). This will be the first retailer drop on Sony’s major gaming console in as many weeks. Even better: You don’t need to be an Amazon Prime member to be able to secure your PS5 on this restock.
This restock news comes via Amazon PS5 menu page (Opens in a new tab) which has been updated to include a note that reads: “The next wave of invitations will be sent on 8/8/2022 to eligible customers.” Amazon restocks are often shrouded in mystery, so it’s refreshing to get confirmation directly from the retailer itself. Although we don’t have a confirmed time, based on previous drops, we expect the Amazon PS5 restocking to begin around 1 PM ET.

It’s important to note that Amazon has now adopted an invitation system to distribute its PS5 inventory. Amazon claims it changed the restocking process in order to “ensure that as many real customers as possible can purchase this high-demand item”. Basically, you need to sign up early and then during the PS5 restock, select customers will be invited to purchase a console via email.
There’s still plenty of time to register your PS5 purchase interest at Amazon’s restock today, but it’s important to note that Amazon doesn’t guarantee that every customer will receive an invite. But since recording costs nothing and only takes a few seconds, it’s worth doing if you’re in the market for a brand new next-gen console.
If you are one of the lucky ones selected, you will receive an email with a link valid for 72 hours. You will need to complete the purchase in this window, otherwise you will lose access to restocking. It’s also worth noting that Amazon only registers on a PS5 Disc console (either standalone or bundled with Horizon Forbidden West), and there is currently no way to register to purchase a PS5 digital console.
