Following the death of Bill Russell, the NBA’s No. 6 Celtics legend retired at the league level, the first time in history that this was ever done.
The NBA is still mourning the loss of one of the undeniable basketball legends Bill Russell after his death on July 31 at the age of 88 in his Washington home. There was an outpouring of love for the greatest winner in sports history from Boston Celtics fans and basketball fans as a group.
But now, the league has made a decision honoring Bill Russell for as long as the league exists.
On Thursday, the NBA announced that the famous No. 6 player for Russell would be retiring throughout the NBA, making Russell the first player in history to earn the league’s league-wide honor with his retirement.

The love shown to Russell has continued posthumously by fans across the league as they showed their appreciation and appreciation for one of the all-time greats and the Federation for honoring him in this way.
Russell’s accomplishments are almost unparalleled in all sports. During his illustrious career with the Celtics, he won 11 NBA championships, including three player-coachs. He was also the best five-time player in the league.
Moreover, Russell’s philanthropic endeavors were seemingly endless and impressively impressive. So much so that he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 by Barack Obama.
As for his number retirement, it has been noted that players who already wear the number 6 – most notably LeBron James – will be viable and can continue to wear the number, but after they move or change their number, that never happens. It can be worn again.
If anyone is to receive that honor, it is Bill Russell who deserves to be.
