The iPhone 14 price may go up on average, and it’s likely the fault of the iPhone 14 Pro. But Apple could make the increase worthwhile with more virtual storage.
Apple Analyzer Ming Chi Kuo (Opens in a new tab) He said in a new tweet that the average selling price for the entire iPhone 14 range could be about 15% higher than the price of the iPhone 13. He discusses this in light of which means higher profits for one of Apple’s major manufacturing partners, but higher price will have a significant impact on customers who buy the iPhone also.
More importantly, Kuo says that this increase will be mostly due to the iPhone 14 Pro expected to be the best selling position outside the iPhone 14 range. Fortunately, Kuo is not suggesting that there will be a 15% price increase for all models.
Kuo did not mention an exact price for these more expensive iPhone 14 models. In previous rumors, we’ve heard mention of a $100 increase in the iPhone 14 Pro (from $999 to $1,099) and Pro Max (from $1,099 to $1,199), while the regular iPhone 14 is said to stay at the set price point of $799. An all-new model, the iPhone 14 Max, should sell for $899, between the vanilla iPhone 14 and 14 Pro.
The price increase may be a bit painful for potential buyers, but there is some good news to get rid of the bitter aftertaste.
iPhone 14 Pro tends to increase storage space
If Apple increases the base price of the iPhone 14 Pro, one way it can avoid annoying customers is to offer more in return, for example additional basic storage space. This is the analysis company thing Trendforce (Opens in a new tab) (Across Mac rumors (Opens in a new tab)) in a prediction for the specifications of the iPhone 14 series.
All iPhone 13 series come with 128GB of storage by default, with 256GB and 512GB options available on all models and a 1TB option offered for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. While starting at 256GB on Pro models would offer a nice three storage options each on both the regular and Pro iPhones, it’s not likely for us.
Apple has been slow to adapt to the increased storage needs of its users in the past. It only stopped selling 64GB flagship iPhones with the iPhone 13, and on the iPhone 12 Pro in the case of Pro models, so adopting 256GB of storage for the base iphne 14 models may be too early, according to previous Cupertino actions. Also, giving users more storage by default means fewer users want to upgrade their storage when they buy the phone, which can cost Apple money overall.
Even if Apple sticks with a base storage of 128GB, plenty of other upgrades for the iPhone 14 Pro models are rumored. It’s said to have a new, faster A16 chipset (presumably the regular iPhone 14 won’t get it), pill-hole cutouts for the face and selfie camera, a 48MP main camera, and an always-on display function among its upgrades. If all of these rumors are true, this will be the biggest performance gap between regular and Pro iPhones since Apple introduced the Pro iPhone line in 2019.
