Hallmark has become known for a certain brand of family-friendly movies. Especially at Christmas time, viewers flock to the channel and its offshoots for some sweet, cocoa-like romance, which always delivers happily ever after. But behind the scenes, the drama may be more realistic, like A number of Hallmark representatives have moved into the GAC family, where the competing network builds its own corner of the market. Stars like Candice Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar might seem like a pretty big loss to Hallmark, however, the channel’s top executives don’t seem too concerned.
In fact, when Lisa Hamilton Daly, executive vice president of Hallmark Programs, spoke at the TV Critics Association’s press conference on August 10, she seemed to be meticulously searching for those who had left. Explaining that Hallmark is always looking for new actors to join the family, she said (via Hey ho!):
Lisa Hamilton Daly acknowledged there was some talent now working with the GAC family, but basically said Hallmark has kept the actors she’s interested in collaborating with in the future. Now, she said, “just about everyone,” so it’s possible there were a few artists she and the other CEOs were really sad to see go. However, Hallmark’s message is very clear: on and on, and on, thanks for the memories.
Candace Cameron Bure Signs an Exclusive Deal with GAC Family the following April Jane Lilly and Danica Patrick come out from Hallmark. Patrick was the first to jump ship back in October 2021, and while he suspected it Patrick’s move to the rival network would excite others (And he’s done so with some like Trevor Donovan and Jessica Lowndes), it’s clear that a lot of the stars decided to stay with Hallmark.
I mean girls an actress Lacey Chabert signed an exclusive agreement with Hallmark in February to co-produce and implement TV films and other content over the next two years. Jonathan Bennett signed his exclusive contract in April, after being cast as a star Hallmark’s first Christmas movie with a main LGBTQ+ storyline, christmas housein 2020. Holly Robinson Pete and Andrew Walker are two familiar faces to anyone who skips the channel at Christmas time, and they’re joined by more talented names including AimeĆ© Teegarden from Friday night lights Fame, Taylor Cole and Brennan Elliott, who signed his deal in March. Add to that an increase in scripted series in the future of Hallmark, and there’s not enough reason to look back.
We can’t tell how much bad blood actually exists between Hallmark and the actors who left for its rival, but it can’t be argued that the two channels hold some hitters, in which case maybe all movie fans are the real winners?
