Hong Kong remake of “Tape”: Selena Lee, Kenny Kwan, Adam Back to Star

Selena Lee, Kenny Kwan, and Adam Buck led the cast of “Tape,” a Cantonese remake of Richard Linklater’s drama that debuted in 2001. The new film is directed by Bizan Tong (“Forensic Specialist,” “The Audition”) with The cameras are due to launch next month in Hong Kong.

“Tape” tells the story of 3 best friends who, after a graduation event that changed their lives, reunite 15 years later as a case of blackmail forces them to confront a terrible secret from their past.

In Tong’s remake, Kwan, Lee, and Pak play contemporary characters while Mason Fong, Summer Chan, and Angus Young portray their younger versions.

The script was written by Stephen Bilber, Tong, Lee, and Bonnie Lu, and is adapted from Bilber’s own scripts from both the original film and theatrical stage.

The producers in the film are Tong, Lee, and Bilber. It is a joint project of Phoenix Waters Productions, Marvion and Agog Films. No sales company has been identified yet.

Canadian actress from Hong Kong, Lee has credits including “Barrack O’Karma” and the Canadian series “Blood & Water”. Actor and singer Kwan’s screen credits include “The Twin Flower Legend” and Hermann Yao’s upcoming “Customs Frontline”. Pak recently led the ViuTV series “Inevitable” and is currently starring in “Breakout Brothers 3”, one of the highest-grossing Hong Kong films of the year.

“Tape” is one of the many projects that Phoenix Waters Productions and Marvion Productions have partnered with in Hong Kong for domestic and international audiences. Filming of the zombie action-thriller announced by Tong “Chongqing Palace” has been postponed until next year. Other projects in development include the drama series “Crypto Keepers” and the superhero series “Evos”. Tong’s crime series “Forensic Psychology” led by Jenny Chan is in advanced post-production with Endeavor Content that handles global distribution and reproduction rights.
