Lead writer She-Hulk reveals that the series can’t use Spider-Man characters

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Officially less than a week away from his debut, his unique place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grab the headlines. The series is set to be a legal comedy centered around Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), providing her legal advice to a wide range of Marvel Comics characters. While some very specific deep cuts are set to make their live-action debut on the series, a new interview with lead writer Jessica Gau reveals some characters that wouldn’t have been included. as Zhao said directThe series’ writing staff were “really annoyed” that they couldn’t use Spider-Man or any of the Spider-Man adjacent characters, due to those rights at Sony.

“There were a lot of characters from the comics – we wanted a lot of character comics for fun situations where we could bring in like a character and think of funny reasons why they got in legal trouble,” Zhao explained. “But there were a lot of characters that were from the comics that we either couldn’t use because of a rights issue, or there were a few times where it was because of Marvel… All they’d say was they had other plans. And that’s all they’re going to tell us. And then, we tried really hard to prick, nudge, and get a little more information. Of course, they wouldn’t tell us.”

“But I will say, the MCU character that annoyed a lot of writers in our room that we couldn’t use was Spider-Man and anyone involved in the neighborhood – like the world of Spider-Man,” Gao added. “Because we had a lot of Spider-Man fans in the room.”

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law It follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complex life of a single 30-year-old lawyer who happens to be a powerful green hulk of 6 feet 7 inches.
