Shakira is moving to a US city after separating from Gerard Piqu, why did she choose this place?

Shakira has been in the separation process from Gerard Piqu and is looking for a change of scenery because after 12 years of relationship and two children together Miami has been a place of solace.

Without something to link her to Barcelona, the singer has her family, as well as friends who support her and have asked her to leave Spain and return to Florida.

Her refuge

Miami is Shakira’s “refuge”, as stated by family friend and Douglas Elliman’s real estate agent, Ana Lourdes Martinez.

“Miami is her home,” the woman told The Post, further expressing, “Her parents live here, her brother lives here, her niece and nephew live here. She has no family in Spain. It’s a different environment than Barcelona.”

Her family comes first

“It’s all about his children. Her children come before her career. Her family comes first. Her mom is always with her and Tonino too,” said Martinez, who works with Shakira’s brother Antonio on the singer’s local real estate.

Her North Bay mansion

In 2001, the Barranquilla native bought the waterfront property on North Bay Road for $3.4 million.

The contemporary home is 8,078 square feet and inside there are 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a gym with hardwood floors, a recording studio, and a private dock.

She tried to sell the property

In 2013, when her son Milan was born, Shakira tried to sell the property, first putting it up for rent for $45,000 a month and then for sale for just $13 million. Two years later the cost increased to $13.9 million.

In February of last year, he again put the house up for sale for $15.9 million before dismantling it six months later. The house has remained off the market ever since.

Six million more

According to Page Six, at the peak of the pandemic, when prices were skyrocketing in Miami, Shakira was offered “five or six million above the asking price,” but declined. She didn’t want to sell, Martinez explains.

Gods plan

“After that, everything happened,” the woman says, referring to Shakira’s problems with Piqu and the tax evasion controversy. “This has been God’s plan, I told her that this is her home,” she adds.

She can now get away

“I feel bad for what happened to her with her partner, but that’s life,” Martinez said. “In Miami, she can go on with her life,” Martinez pointed out.
