Announcing the new Lord of the Rings game

It was announced today that the development of a new video game related to Middle-earth and The Lord of the Rings has begun. Although details about the project are still incredibly scattered, this same game is published by Private Division, the label behind projects like outer worlds And the Hades. As for the developer of the game, it so happened that it came from a studio with direct ties to the The Lord of the Rings movie franchise.

Announced via a press release, Private Division has announced that it is collaborating with Wētā Workshop on a new video game associated with The Lord of the Rings. For those unaware, Wētā Workshop is a New Zealand special effects company that has helped work on all the films associated with The Lord of the Rings. In 2014, the studio established a gaming division and is now in the process of working on a project related to this fictional universe. While details about this game are still unknown, it is said that it is “set in the Middle-earth world of J.R.R. Tolkien.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Wētā Workshop to publish a game set in such an extraordinary and festive universe,” said Michael Warch, Head of Special. “the Lord of the Rings IP is home to many great stories, and no entity is better equipped than the team at Wētā Workshop to create a unique and new gaming experience in the Middle earth. ”

As mentioned, there is still basically something tangible that we know about this upcoming game as of today. Not only has a title been given to the game, but we don’t know what genre it will belong to either. The only thing mentioned outside of this broad announcement is that the special section anticipates a release of the title in fiscal year 2024 for Take-Two Interactive. This means that it should launch sometime between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024.
