Chicago Sky and New York Liberty will begin the WNBA playoffs tonight with Game One. Sky will be looking to start defending their title with a strong match in front of their home fans.
Liberty will be severely underdog, in both Game 1 and the series. They only took one game off Sky over their four regular season games and were outperformed by an average of 12.8 points per 100 possessions across the four games. However, the WNBA has changed the format of the playoff, eliminating the singles eliminations in the first round giving them a few more bites at the troubled apple.

Chicago Sky features a deep and versatile attack with six different players averaging a double count. They have volume, depth, shooting creation, outside shooting and one of the best defenses in the WNBA this season. They also have the advantage of continuity and five of those six scorers were on the team that won the championship last year.
Freedom won’t be easy though. Sabrina Ionescu is the driver for this team, averaging 17.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game this season. Liberty was also a different team once they added some extra backyard builders at Crystal Dangerfield Marine Johannes, and they’ve gone 7-3 in their last 10 matches, outperforming opponents by an average of 6.7 points per 100 possessions.
This should be a competitive and well-functioning game, but in the end I think the depth and experience of Chicago is too much for New York.
