Caught on camera: Belle Isle closes giant slide in Detroit over speed issues, plans to make adjustments!

Detroit, Michigan (KTRK) – A famous giant cliff near Detroit is shutting down after parents voiced safety concerns.

Belle Isle’s massive six-lane slide reopened briefly Friday only to be closed again.

Kenyatta McDanie said the fun turned into fear for his children because speed became an issue.

“What I noticed was the effect of them hitting the ground coming out of the hills,” he said.

The video shows some of the wild rides on the slide where kids can be seen zipping through the ride.

“I was going faster than I could have imagined. Gravity hurts,” said Kemar, McAdney’s child.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, which operates the slide, shut down the ride to retouch the wax on the slide to control speed.

“Hopefully after our small adjustment we can get back up and running and make the slide slower for more fun,” a statement read.

McDanie said he also gave up the tickets he had paid for out of concern.

“If they had just kept riding on that slide, one of them would have been injured,” McDanie said.

As of Friday. It is not clear when the slide will reopen to the public.
