Peter Jackson reveals that Disney and Apple will not release the expanded clip

Last year, Disney + was released The Beatles: come backa three-episode, six-hour documentary series that took viewers back in time to the legendary band’s January 1969 recording sessions for what would be their last album, Let it be. The series—which not only documented the band writing, rehearsing, and recording the album, but their personal struggles as well—was met with critical acclaim. But despite the acclaim and popularity, director Peter Jackson says there’s unlikely to be an extended trailer for the series – even though there is plenty of material for it.

talking on the work Podcast (via Playlist), Jackson corrected host Kim Masters when she commented that Jackson was working on an extended version of the series, saying he wasn’t, but he was fighting for it.

“I’m not, no. I’m fighting to help me, Kim,” Jackson said. “Disney and Apple are hesitant because they say – and they are probably right – that there is no longer a market for extended sale. But I know there are five or six hours of great stuff that we haven’t included, and I don’t want it to be back in the coffers for fifty years. So Let’s just say it’s a conversation happening, but it’s not necessarily a final conversation at this point.”

Disney isn’t exactly known for being big on extended cuts or made by directors for their properties, but the flip side of that is that The Beatles are one of the most important musical acts in contemporary history. There is likely to be a market for such a release given the enduring state of the band, although one has to wonder what new can be gleaned from the addition of six hours of recordings.

Official description of The Beatles: come back As follows: “The Beatles: come back It takes audiences back in time to the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, which became a pivotal moment in music history. The documentaries show the creative process of the Beatles trying to write 14 new songs in preparation for their first live concert in over two years. Faced with an almost impossible deadline, the strong friendship bonds shared between John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr are put to the test. The documentary series was compiled from nearly 60 hours of unseen footage filmed over 21 days, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, and from more than 150 hours of unheard audio, most of which were locked in a vault for more than half a century. Jackson is the only person in 50 years who has been given access to the Beatles’ treasure trove, all of which are now masterfully restored. What emerges is an incredibly intimate portrait of the Beatles, showing how they can still count on their friendship, sense of humor and creative genius, with their backs against the wall. As plans go awry and relationships are put on the line, some of the world’s most famous songs are composed and performed. The documentary series features – for the first time in its entirety – the Beatles’ latest live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savel Row, as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s last two albums, monastery road And the Let it be. The three-part documentary series includes never-before-seen restored footage that occasionally includes explicit language, mature themes, and smoking. The viewer is advised to act freely.”
