PlayStation Store update quietly addresses ‘Shovelware’ issue

It appears that Sony has released a behind-the-scenes update to the PlayStation Store to address an issue with streaming content that users consider “scoops”. The update in question appears to have reorganized how the latest PlayStation Store games are offered to those browsing the market so that people can have an easier time finding games that are seen as having a better value. Although Sony did not draw attention to this change, people have already noticed and seem to appreciate the new PlayStation Store experience.

first noticed before push the boxThis PlayStation Store change can be seen more easily by heading to the desktop version of the Store itself and looking at “new gamesWhen you do that, you should see a lineup similar to the list below with games like Madden NFL 23 And the Pregnancy worship Being one of the first people to appear.

You’re seeing the games displayed this way because the default sorting option for the New Games section is now Best Sellers instead of sorting the list according to which games are actually newer than new games. This sorting option can be seen by selecting the “Release date (new – old)” filter. This was the default way new games were introduced before the PlayStation Store update, and filtering games this way brings up the next lineup.

You’ll still see some recognizable names and series by sorting games this way, but the problem players had with this filter option was that it presented browsers with games like kebab jumpingAnd the Jumping noodles: turbo, And the Taco Fun in quick succession. The cheap and repetitive nature of these games was what earned them Criticism of “shovel” Forced by users who are tired of trying to search for new releases only to find games they considered low value copy-and-paste products.

As some have pointed out, these games are easy to ignore, but some conflict with them even more since they are sources of low-effort prizes for players to get and inflate their profile scores. This also doesn’t matter because trophies don’t mean anything apart from being able to claim a personal achievement, but it all leads to a bigger problem people have with low-quality games cluttering the store. While it does show that some action is being taken, this change can also be considered as a temporary solution as well, as this will likely make it more difficult for standalone releases and real new releases to be found.

Sony may keep repeating this more in the future, but for now, you should expect to see your new PlayStation Store releases organized accordingly when browsing the market.
