First ‘Rings of Power’ reactions praise the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” Amazon Studios’ ambitious fantasy series based on the works of author JRR Tolkien and the most expensive television series ever produced, premieres September 2 on Amazon Prime Video. But with the social ban lifted, critics and fans who previously watched the first two episodes are flocking to Twitter to share their opinions on the highly anticipated series.

Eric Francisco, a senior Inverse screenwriter/television writer, praised “Rings of Power” as “big, bold, and beautiful” but noted uncertainty over whether the previous series would “sit alongside” Peter Jackson’s film trilogy or “deserve the Tolkien name.” “.

He wrote: “For the time being, everything one can expect from an expensive pizza is from a historically expensive production.”

“The first two episodes of #LordoftheRings #RingsofPower are amazing sights to behold,” added Brandon Katz, Senior Television Correspondent for The Wrap. “Size, scope, ambition and grandeur are unparalleled on TV. It also has the daunting task of delivering so much of the essential world building that takes time to start flying.”

Rodrigo Salem, entertainment journalist for Brazilian outlet Fulha, wrote: “Rings of Power” is a cinematic experience. In a perfect world, we’d watch it on a big screen. He is pure Tolkien and yet feels very attached to the Peter Jackson films. The FX is great, the acting is great and the intro itself would ruin any horrible feeling you had.”

Devan Coogan, senior writer at Entertainment Weekly, shared on Twitter: “I’ve seen the first two episodes of ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, and they’re total fun. Watching it feels like it’s back in Middle-earth. Can’t wait to see where this story goes” .

“After watching the first two episodes of #RingsOfPower, I have to admit I was surprised by how much I liked it,” wrote Stacey Lambie, Senior TV and Broadcast Editor at Entertainment Tonight. “The lush and expansive series pretty much breathes new life into the franchise. It’s a show that I think people will enjoy once they allow themselves to immerse themselves in it.”

Set thousands of years before the events of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” during the Second Age of Middle-earth, the series covers the rise and fall of Númenor, the creation of the Pottery Rings and the formation of the Last Alliance. The Rings of Power also reintroduced popular “Lord of the Rings” characters such as young Galadriel (Morvid Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo).

Besides Clarke and Aramayo, the cast includes Owen Arthur, Nazanin Boniady, Tom Badge, Ismail Cruz Cordova, Emma Horvath, Markila Cavina, Joseph Molly, Teru Mohaveden, Sophia Numvit, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers and Danielle Wyman.

Amazon Studios began developing “The Rings of Power” in 2017 in an effort to produce more mainstream content, spending $250 million to purchase the rights to Tolkien’s estate. The budget of the series for its first season was estimated at 465 million dollars.

“The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power” directed by J.A. Bayona, Wayne Chi Yip and Charlotte Brandstrom. Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne serve as showrunners and executive producers on the series.
