‘Corsig’, ‘Goodland’ among the titles of the London Film Festival competition

The BFI London Film Festival has revealed eight titles that will be in official competition.

Films include the political drama of Santiago Mitter “Argentina, 1985” (Argentina); The tale of brotherly love of Clement Virgo “Brother” (Canada); The irreverent Marie Kreuzer drama “Korsage” (Austria-Luxembourg-Germany-France); Vizal Boulifa’s local drama “Cursed Do Not Cry” (France-Belgium-Morocco); Mark Jenkin’s folk horror tale “Enys Men” (UK); Hlynur Palmason’s historical epic “Godland” (Denmark – Iceland – France – Sweden); Sadid Kaadan’s influential family film “Exodus” (UK – Syria – France); And Alice Diop’s courtroom drama “Saint Omer”.

All the nominated films are on the festival circuit this year. “Argentina, 1985” and “Saint Omer” will debut in Venice and are both on the verge of winning the Golden Lion. “The Damned Don’t Cry” and “Nezouh” are also set for rifle bows. “Brother” will bow in Toronto, while “Corsage” won Best Performance at Cannes and Best Actress in Sarajevo for Vicky Krebs. “Enys Men” and “Godland” were also in Cannes.

The winner will be chosen by the official competition jury, whose members will be revealed in the coming weeks. The other competitive categories, the Grierson Award for Best Documentary, Sutherland Award for Best Short Film, Short Film Award, Best Immersive Art and XR Award, will be revealed when the program launches on September 1. This year, Mona Akl’s first feature film “Costa, Brava, Lebanon” returns this year, and a new category was presented, the Audience Award, Best Short Film.

Founded in 2009 and won by Jack Odiard for the first time for “A Prophet”, recent winners of the Best Film award in London include “Joy” by Sudabeh Mortezai, “Monos” by Alejandro Landes and in 2021 “Hit the Road” by Panah Panahi .

The Best Picture winner will be announced at the virtual LFF Awards on October 16th on BFI YouTube and social media.

The 66th BFI London Film Festival will be held in partnership with American Express from October 5-16.
