SVU star Kelli Giddish has been excluded from the new season, and Mariska Hargitay was pushed to keep her on the show.

Law & Order: SVU fans were disappointed to learn that Kelli Giddish will be out of the show during Season 24, and Giddish will confirm the news later in the day. SVU’s new showrunner has since tackled Giddish’s upcoming exit after the announcement received a huge backlash, hinting that the whole thing was more complicated than it might seem, and now a new report from diverse It seems to confirm it. According to the report, multiple sources say going out wasn’t Gidish’s choice nor was it a decision made by new model David Graziano, but rather a call from above.

An insider added that the company is always looking to update and update the offer as much as possible, and the report also states that salary negotiations were part of the conversation and that no compromise could be reached. The report also states that series star and executive producer Mariska Hargitay and at least one other producer pushed to keep Gedish on the show, but that the decision had already been made.

In her statement, Gidish wrote, “I wanted to talk about the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will indeed be my last season on ‘Law & Order: SVU.’ Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I have been very fortunate to be a part of the Law family.” & Order” for the past 12 years. There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. I’ve grown and changed, and so am I. I started on this show when I was in my late twenties and am grateful to have spent so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life “.

“I would like to thank Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay, Peter Jankowski, NBC, Universal Television, all my co-stars, every crew member and all the writers here for our amazing work together over the past 12 years. I am so excited to take in all the things I’ve learned in My time on SVU and put into whatever is to come.”

This latest development isn’t likely to help the backlash this move is receiving, and many would like to see Detective Amanda Rollins come back in one form or another, but at least for now, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

Law & Order: SVU will premiere Season 24 on NBC on September 22 at 9 p.m. ET.
