Recounted by human rights lawyer, Inbeh Efiong, who was imprisoned for contempt by Akwa Ibom State Chief Justice, Judge Ikit Obote, in so-called controversial circumstances on July 27, he regained his freedom on Friday while speaking with the PUNCH event to him in prison.
He said after the verdict, that he was not afraid to go to jail but the truth began to emerge after he arrived at Oyo Correctional Facility but was rejected and taken to Ikut Ekpen where he was supposed to stay there for two weeks. But when he arrived at the reformatory, what he saw made him realize that the government had neglected the correctional centers.
He further said that he had to take off his shoes when he was accepted and other belongings and showed the cell that he would spend the two weeks. He added that the facility is very crowded and the guests live like animals, some of them don’t even have a place to lie.
