Suspect killed by Houston PD officer after committing arson to lure neighbors outside and conduct deadly shooting, police say!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – A police officer shot dead a suspect after three people were killed in a shooting in southwest Houston Sunday morning, investigators said.

At about 1 a.m., officials responded to a fire and a person at 8020 Dunlap Street.

When the Houston Fire Department arrived at the scene, firefighters said the suspect had shot them, sending them to cover.

According to authorities, when Houston police officers arrived a short time later, an officer discovered the suspect and opened fire.

The Public Health Department confirmed that the suspect had died and described him as a black man in his forties.

Investigators said they believed the suspect set the fire to get neighbors out of their homes and shot them.

HPD chief Troy Wiener said he believes the suspect may have been a disgruntled tenant who was evicted and took retaliatory action against other people living in the neighborhood.

“Our officer arrived and took action, and for that, I am very proud of him. He is a seven-year veteran of the South Gessner Division. And again, as usual, as per policy, he will be on administrative leave of absence,” said Wiener.

Three victims died, Wiener said, including two white men in his 60s and a black man in his 40s who died in hospital.

Investigators told eyewitnesses at the scene that two additional wounded victims survived.

Investigators believe that the victims are all residents of the area.

Police said they found one gun and are working to establish the cause of the fire, but it appears it was an arson.

Victims’ identities are withheld until families are notified.
