Gun-bound ‘Eismayer’ marches to Loco Films, debuts trailer

Austrian director David Wagner’s first feature film “Eismayer,” which had its world premiere at Venice Critics’ Week on Sunday, has been selected for international sales by Paris-based Loco Films. The trailer for the movie appears here (below).

In a statement, Loco presidents Laurent Daniello and Arnaud Godart said: “From this true and extraordinary story, [Wagner] I managed to make a very accurate and cinematic movie.”

The film centers on Sergeant Major Eisemyer, known and feared to be the most rigorous training officer in the Austrian armed forces, ruthless with recruits and unwavering in his discipline, order, and masculine toughness. But when he begins to fall in love with Falak, a rookie who shamelessly embraces his homosexuality, Esmeyer’s closed existence is shaken to the core. For a man like Esmeyer, love for another man cannot be reconciled with an understanding of what a typical soldier should be. Will he choose protecting the tough, tough guy’s image over everything else, or can he pursue his true heart and desire? The movie is based on a true story.

The film is produced by Arash T. At the Berlinale in 2019.

The producers commented, “Eismayer is a true and honest movie, raw and poetic at the same time. A story that first rips apart our preconceptions of masculinity and strength and then rebuilds them in a new way. This film exudes passion, humanity and a love of life, while exploring the emotional struggles that everyone can recognize – regardless about sexual orientation.

Among the actors are Gerhard Liebmann, Luka Dimic and Julia Kochitz. Director of Photography is Seraphine Spitzer and Editor Stefan Bichinger.

The film “Eismayer” was produced with the support of the Vienna Film Fund, the Austrian Film Institute, Supporting the Film Industry in Austria, Land Niederösterreich (Department of Art and Culture), and Land Steiermark Cine Art (Ministry of Culture, European Affairs and Sport), in cooperation with ORF Film / Fernseh-Abkommen, and co-produced by ZDF in conjunction with ARTE.
