It is no longer news that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and Governor of Rivers State, Governor Nisom Waiki, have been unable to settle their grievances.

It should be noted that the crisis between the two leaders began when Governor Atiku chose Okwa as his running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.

Party leaders formed a committee to select the party’s vice-presidential nominee and the committee recommended Governor Nisom Wake but Atiku chose Governor Okwa instead.

It was recently reported that the PDP presidential candidate had met with Governor Wike and other affected PDP governors in London.

The Premium Times gathered that Atiko held meetings with Governor Wake over dinner at Park Lane in the Carlton Hotel, London.

Also attending the meeting were the Governor of Oyo State, Sei Makinde, and Okezi Ikebizu of Abia State, and the Governor of Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortum.

Conservatives demanded six things from the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Among the things Atiku requested, that they produce the next Senate president if the party wins in 2023 and that Atiku serve one term and deliver him to the South.

It should be noted that Governor Wake had earlier demanded that the national chairman of the party, Senator Eurasia Ayew, resign from his position as party president.

Although some party leaders have expressed their views, Ayew’s resignation will deepen the crisis rocking the party.

However, some party leaders urged Ayo to resign as PDP chairman in favor of the party.

One of the party leaders, who urged Ayew to resign as PDP chairman in favor of the party, is Rivers State’s Party Publicity Secretary, Tambari Sidney Gbara.

Mr Tambari said calls for Ayu’s resignation were misplaced, stressing that under the provisions of the PDP constitution, it was not legal for a particular section of the country to elect both the national president and the party’s presidential candidate.

Gebara said: “In 2007 and 2008, when President Musa Yar’Adua emerged as the standard-bearer of the Progressive Democratic Party, and Colonel Ahmed Ali (retired), who was the party’s national head, was forced to resign, and the mini-conference was held immediately, to elect Prince Vincent Ogbolafur from the south, To bring balance to the head of the party leadership. So he said, if this trend should be back then, why is it different now?

Speaking Saturday, Jabara also said that Wike is the party leader in the state, and therefore, the Rivers PDP will support any decision he makes at any time.

Another PDP leader, who has called for Ayew’s resignation as party chief, is an ally of Oyo State Governor Dare Adeleke, Sei Makinde.

Mr Adeleke called for Ayu’s resignation and advised all party stakeholders to find ways to settle all thorny differences through peaceful negotiations rather than confrontation.

Adeleke, president of Oyo Express, told reporters over the weekend in Ibadan that Ayo’s resignation is required to make way for justice and equity.

He flawed how the former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido handled issues by throwing blows at Rivers State Governor, Governor Nisom Waik.

It should be noted that Lamido recently erred, Governor Wake, for not having a monopoly on the state’s electorate, as he would become irrelevant to politics at the end of his term.
