The Hornets focus on many guards, including the former All-Stars

The Charlotte Hornets are looking for the talent of former All-Stars to score behind the cutting edge LaMelo ball, including Isaiah Thomas and Kemba Walker.

The LaMelo Ball may be coming up on the NBA All-Star season, but the 21-year-old is still developing his role with the Charlotte Hornets.

For that reason, the Hornets are looking to solidify their roster with a few veteran guards, specifically those who were all-stars last year.

According to the NBA Insider Mark Stein, the Hornets have been following the options of the reserve point guard to slip behind the ball, searching throughout the league to find the right candidates. The team is still interested in Isaiah Thomas, who played the role last season, but the search has expanded to include former Phoenix Suns goalkeeper Elfrid Payton.

What most fans of the Hornets will like is that the reserve role can be filled by a former Hornets staple. According to Stein, Detroit Pistons guard Kemba Walker is expected to buy from his current deal, which could open the door for Walker to return to his Charlotte home.

Bringing Walker back to Charlotte would be a fitting return for someone who was a three-time All-Star during his eight-year stint in Charlotte.

Drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2011, Walker broke through during the 2015-16 NBA season, making the All-Star list for the subsequent three seasons.

Kemba walked away from the Hornets when he was able to sign a four-year, $141 million deal with the Boston Celtics, but that proved short-lived. Walker jumped from the OKC Thunder to the New York Knicks in 2021, and in July this year, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons in a deal for a future head coach.

Walker still ranks first in minutes played, field goals and three-pointers Charlotte’s history. For the sake of nostalgia, it might be ideal to bring in Walker, but Payton and Thomas also have arguments in their favour. Payton is slightly smaller than Walker and is Strong defender of the oceanAnd Thomas has already built chemistry with his Hornets teammates.

With what each player brings to the table, the Hornets will have to continue evaluating their options as they bring in a player who will enhance future playoff rounds.
