Thor: Love and Thunder, the newest movie from Marvel Studios, introduced one of the most terrifying villains we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. Christian Bale’s stand on Gorr the God-Butcher has made his mark on fans, despite not getting as much on-screen time that some were expecting. His story in the film involved the kidnapping of a group of Asgardian children in order to lure Thor into the Shadow Realm. As it turns out, this part of his story was much darker at one point.
Marvel concept artist George Hull recently shared some concept paintings from love and thunder, revealing the original plan of Gore’s kidnapping scheme. According to Hal’s post, the initial idea was that Gore needed the souls of children to enter Eden and encounter eternity. take a look!

As Hull explains in the caption, that idea didn’t make it to the final version of the movie. Not only was the place incredibly dark, but it posed a lot of complicated issues for the story itself, especially if the plan was to keep the kids alive. Gorr must reach eternity in order to deliver love and thunder, so it is likely that he will have to sacrifice two children. That wouldn’t work with his story, given that all of his decisions stemmed from losing his daughter.
Fortunately, things changed, and Bifrost was just what Gore needed to open the Gate of Eden. The story was simpler and all the children had to go home to New Asgard. It’s hard not to consider this an absolute win.
