Crosby gas station owned by Talbott family hit twice by drivers in 1 day on Main Street; TxDOT responds!

Crosby, TX (KTRK) – Having a vehicle in your workplace once would be a staggering start at first, but you can breathe easy if you have insurance.

But being hit twice on the same day is dwindling, as a gas station owner in Crosby angered Eyewitness News on Wednesday.

Just two days ago, the Talbot family station, which they have owned for more than 30 years, was the site of a firecracker that occurred around 9 a.m. on Monday.

Owner Danny Talbot said, “When I got here, I saw (the umbrella) lying on the ground. The pumps were lying on the ground and on fire. Everything else was gone by the time I got here.”

Sure enough, photos taken at that moment showed a full service pump charred and on the ground. Almost immediately, the Talbotts got to work, trying to repair what someone else had destroyed with their car.

“I thought I’d be back on my feet without that side (of the pumps) working,” Talbot said.

That was until another car crashed into action over 12 hours later.

“Then another one went in at 9:30 that night through the back wall and destroyed every piece of equipment and tools I had in the garage,” Talbot said, describing the whole situation as a “big nightmare.”

The cause of the collision and the need for better barriers

The Google

Talbotts wants the Texas Department of Transportation to step in and make the area safer in order to prevent more accidents like the one that does.

They explained that the issues only emerged after the state widened the road near the station on Main Street several years ago.

“Broadening it, he quickly opened it,” Talbot said. “They took the best roller rack I had already, and it kind of gave me a halfway protection.”

Instead, they said, there are three small barrels, a solution that they believe is not enough. They are asking for a bigger and more visible barrier like the one they had before widening the road.

TxDOT representatives told ABC13 that they are aware of the concerns. They add that if they put in place another barrier, they will need to look at the crash data to determine which solutions are appropriate there.

The fix can’t come soon enough. It hurt the business, but the losses it inflicted on the Talbotts are incalculable.

“I’m just trying to keep it together,” Talbot said.
