Motorcyclist killed: $75,000 bond granted to 19-year-old accused in hit-and-run crash that killed 21-year-old on Hardy Street!

Harris County, Texas (KTRK) – A 19-year-old driver, accused of hitting and leaving a motorcyclist at the scene in northern Harris County, appeared in court early Thursday morning. ABC13 has also learned that the victim, a father, died in hospital last week.

The accident occurred on August 19 along Hardy Street and Mooney Road. In court on Thursday, we learned that Alejandro P. Moncepais is accused of hitting 21-year-old father Eduardo Edwin Rodrigo while going 80mph.

Judge Monsibais awarded the $75,000 bond on the condition that he could drive only with permission.

Monsibais claims he was traveling in the northbound lane when he was shocked and didn’t know what hit him. He told the authorities that he stopped, looked out of his driver’s side window, and left.

Police said surveillance shows the 19-year-old drove another 3 miles before abandoning his Cadillac onto someone’s driveway and fleeing. The officers noticed that the car was still warm to the touch and the front end of the car was badly damaged.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo is left to fight for his life in the hospital. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he had broken bones, organ damage and swelling in his brain prior to his death.

Rodrigo leaves behind a two-year-old child.

Monsibais was charged with failing to stop and providing aid that caused death.

The investigation is still ongoing.
