Bones And All Gets The Standing Shotgun, Chalamet Bisexual Cannibal

Timothee Chalamet saw all Venice viewers in red Friday night at the world premiere of “Bones and All.” The actor wore a shimmering red suit (with no back above the waist) in the shadow of blood, a cheeky wink to the drama’s central protagonists – two cannibals in love.

The drama, which brings Chalamet together with director Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me By Your Name,” lives up to its title with bloody attacks and scenes involving chewing limbs and eating. But, despite the uncomfortable topic, the audience devoured the audience at the premiere of the film Bones and All in Venice. The 8.5-minute film received a standing ovation, the longest and most enthusiastic of the festival to date. (She easily beat the previous record holder “Tar,” a drama starring Cate Blanchett as the tormented composer, which got a 6-minute applause.)

As the crowds inside Sala Grande chanted “Luca! Luca!,” the Italian director wiped tears from his eyes. Chalamet and the cast—including Taylor Russell, who plays the movie’s anti-heroine Marine—walked down the steps of the theater’s mezzanine floor to welcome the crowd into the orchestra as it rained on much applause.

“Bones and All” is based on the novel of the same name by Camille de Angelis. Guadagnino “Suspira” writer David Kaganic adapted the script. The supporting cast includes Mark Rylance, Michael Stolberg, Andre Holland, Jessica Harper, Chloe Sevigny, Francesca Scorsese, and David Gordon Green.

Notably, “Bones and All” is Guadagnino’s first film in the United States. It also marks a meeting between the director and Chalamet, who became one of the youngest Oscar nominees in history thanks to his work on their first collaboration, Call Me By Your Name. Guadagnino described Chalamet’s role in “Bones & All” as heartbreaking.

“The second time I read it, I think only Timothee could play that role,” Guadagnino said. in an interview last year. “He’s amazing, a great performer and seeing him rise the way he does now, I feel so proud of him. And this character is something very new to him, endearing and heartbreaking.”

Guadagnino has a rich history with the Venice Film Festival. He made his directorial debut as “The Protagonists” at the 1999 festival. His films “I Love”, “Splash Splash” and “Suspiria” were shown for the world premieres in Venice.

MGM will release “Bones and All” in theaters on November 23.
