Spoiler Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for the first two episodes of Dragon House. Proceed at your own risk!
like a lot Game of thrones Fans there, I was a cautious optimist Dragon HouseThe feature-length prequel was set in action nearly 200 years before the events of the divisive HBO fantasy drama series. Even after reading some positive reviews from critics, I still wasn’t completely sold out, having been let down to such a devastating degree during the last season of its predecessor that it seemed to rush its conclusion rather than finish things off satisfactorily.
But after watching a file Dragon House Pilot Myself – and the show’s second episode the following week – I’m all on the hype train and can’t get enough of what Ryan Condall and Miguel Saposhnik are doing with the world of George R.R. Martin. Now that the dust has settled, I’ve made up some of the thoughts I have for one of the biggest TV shows of 2022 so far…
House Of The Dragon Pilot does a tremendous job setting the stage for what’s to come
The first episode of Dragon House, titled Heirs of the Dragon does just that as loads of characters, locations, situations, and history are presented in a short amount of time without leaving you feeling lost, confused or overwhelmed. In just over an hour, several major characters such as King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine), Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock), Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and other members of the Dragon House They are all presented with their intentions and motives exposed.
This left me watching every look and gesture, trying to figure out what would happen and lead to the final showdown between some of those characters. By allowing these relationships and situations to boil over the dragon’s fire, the presentation made me eagerly await the dish to be ready to serve…
The Golden Cloaks sequence was shockingly violent and a great way to show Daemon Targaryen’s violent nature
Partially through a file Dragon House In the pilot episode, Daemon Targaryen is seen angering the City Watch of King’s Landing, the violent, ruthless and senseless group of criminals, soldiers, and former brawlers often referred to as the Gold Cloaks. The following is one of the ugliest shows of violence I’ve seen on HBO since perhaps “The Red Wedding” or “Battle of the Bastards.”
The entire time I’ve been watching Gold Cloaks clean the streets of King’s Landing with their unique form of justice, I can’t help but think of “Run Like Hell” sequence In the 1982 movie adaptation of Pink Floyd the wall, with the perpetrators of the thug beating, mutilating and killing randomly in the streets. It’s violent and shocking, and it shows how far a “rogue prince” will go when given the chance.
The uneasy bond shared by the Targaryens and the Velaryons is the classic Game of Thrones
exactly like Game of thrones Kiss , Dragon House Full of competing homes that, due to current conditions, have to form an unstable bond at the moment. One of the most notable of these shaky relationships is the one shared by the Targaryens and the Velaryons, who were bound by the marriage of Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) prior to the events of the show. When Rhaenys, the oldest descendant of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen (Michael Carter), was abdicated on the throne in favor of her cousin Viserys, she forged a life of resentment and patient planning.
In two episodes, it looks like this will be a key aspect of the show going forward, especially with Lord Corliss and Damon Targaryen meeting (having himself skipped for the throne) in the show’s second episode. This will totally lead to bloodshed and power grabs, right?
Will we see more of the younger Rhaenyra Targaryen after the show’s final timeline?
One of the highlights of the first two episodes of Dragon House Millie Alcock was portrayed as Rhinera Targaryen as she transitions from the king’s young daughter and veteran dragon driver to the heir apparent. But with a time jump on the horizon (Emma D’Arcy is set to play an older version of Rhaenyra at one point), our time with Alcock’s filming seems to be fleeting, as the show will advance years into the future.
But the only thing I can’t know is if this would be an appropriate jump in time as we no longer see Alcock take the character as well as Emily Carey’s portrayal of the Princess’ friend and potential mother-in-law Aliscent Hightower (whom Olivia Cooke will portray later), or if it’s a situation where we jump back and forth Just in time to add relevance and more context to key presentation events. I sincerely hope this will be the last.
The crab feeder and his army are savage, terrifying and intriguing
The Game of thrones The franchise has seen its fair share of brutal, terrifying, and intriguing characters over the years with the likes of Ramsay Bolton (Ewan Rayon), Euron Greyjoy (Belo Asbeck), and Night King (Richard Brick/Vladimir Fordick) all coming to mind from the original series. In the second episode of Dragon Houseanother character has been added to that list: Prince-Admiral Craghas Drahar (Daniel Scott-Smith), aka Crabfeeder.
From the first time I saw the actions of the Crab Army — living sailors barely nailed to pegs on shore until crabs and tides slowly killed them — in the early minutes of Episode Two, I was horrified and fascinated by what seemed to be one of the show’s main villains. And while it’s been revealed that Drahar has been hired by Triarchy to bring chaos to Westeros, we don’t learn much from his background, which makes him even more mysterious and dangerous.
I’m excited for the final showdown between Daemon and King Viserys
Since the first time I saw Daemon Targaryen sitting on the Iron Throne in the first episode of Dragon HouseI had a feeling he was going to spend a great deal of time messing with his older brother, King Viserys I Targaryen. I was not mistaken.
After the death of Viserys’ wife and newborn son, Dimon took all his loyal men to a brothel and celebrated the occasion by toasting his deceased nephew by calling him “Heir for a Day,” knowing that it would only further anger his older brother. And then when Viserys makes his daughter heiress despite Daemon, the younger brother responds by taking the Dragonstone and a dragon egg intended for the dead king’s son. In the end, this little fraternal squabble will lead to bloodshed, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
Random thoughts:
On top of all those feelings embodied about Dragon House So far, there are a few other random thoughts running through my head at any given time.
- the Dragon! Lots of dragons!
- It’s great to hear the classic title music again
- I can’t get enough of Matt Smith’s performance
- The birth scene in the pilot was one of the most annoying things I’ve seen on TV
