Netflix, European Producers Club Reveals Winners of Presentation Series

Netflix and the European Producers Club (EPC) have revealed the winners of the pitch competition for a feature series at the ongoing Venice Film Festival.

Presentation Competition is a joint initiative of EPC and Netflix to help create new opportunities for European productions. Launched in Series Mania in March, it is open to EPC producers working in women-owned businesses. Following a selection process by an independent jury, made up of Cia Edstrom, Francine Raveney and Olivier Kohn, the finalists pitched their projects to the Netflix content team.

Anna Manion of Tri Moon Films, Ireland, won the first prize, worth 50,000 euros ($49,762), while Ada Solomon of Microfilms in Romania won the second prize, worth 20,000 euros.

Mariela Besuievsky, Tornasol Media (Spain), Martichka Bozhilova, Agitprop (Bulgaria), Gabriele M. Walther, Caligari (Germany), and Olena Yershova, Tato Film (Ukraine/Turkey) won the third prize 5000 euros.

This initiative is funded by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, which aims to build opportunities for underrepresented communities in the entertainment industry.

Gudny Hummelvoll, President of the European Producers Club, said: “As part of the launch of the EPC Gender Pact, we created this scheme dedicated to women producers with Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity. Women products are more scarce in the public landscape. We felt the need to open up new opportunities and improve their market reach. We are excited that the result of the scheme gives high visibility to women producers from a wide range of countries – from Romania and Bulgaria to Ireland, Germany, Spain and many others.”

Chris Mack, Grow Creative Director at Netflix added: “It has been exciting to see performances from producers from across Europe and it has been great to partner with the European Producers Club to empower women. We know how important behind-the-camera representation is for on-screen representation, which is why we support for initiatives like this with Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity.”
