Dungeons & Dragons remove Hadozee artwork from D&D Beyond

Dungeons & Dragons Removed several Hadozee images from D&D Beyond. After apologizing for including “offensive material” in Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Square set, Wizards of the Coast has removed all Hadozee images from the digital edition of those books on D&D Beyond. Affected pieces of art include images found in My Star Adventurer’s Guide Along with the artworks in Bu Najmi Menagerie. One piece of artwork, found in Astral Adventurer’s Guide, It was particularly criticized for its resemblance to a historical depiction of a black-faced vocalist.

Hadozee was at the center of controversy last week over a modified backstory for the race in which he appeared Astral Adventurer’s Guide. Hadozee is reviewed with a history of experiments by a wizard, who visited their home planet with the intention of creating magically improved soldiers for sale. This depiction has been criticized for adding themes of forced servitude and eugenics as a default setting for creatures, although Wizards of the Coast have expressed a desire to steer clear of harmful metaphors and descriptions in their books.

Wizards of the Coast apologized for the offensive material late Friday and removed several paragraphs from the digital version on D&D Beyond, along with making errors in the books. The company also plans to undergo a “thorough review” of the books and will take appropriate action as a result. Offensive paragraphs will also not appear in future prints of Spelljammer: Adventures in Space. Both images and original content can currently be found on third-party websites such as Roll20, although this may be due to changes being released over the weekend.
