‘Roswell, NM’ EP Breaks Series Finals After Cancellation

brake alert: Don’t read if you haven’t seen “How’s It Going to Be?” , the September 5 final series of “Roswell, New Mexico”.

In May, The CW suspended seven shows, including “Roswell, New Mexico,” which was airing its fourth season. On Monday night, the drama aired its final episode — the episode that Chris Holler and the writers ran into would be the season four finale, not the last episode at all.

During the final episode, Max (Nathan Parsons) sets out to save the world through a portal – one that would allow him to return and live happily ever after with Liz (Jeanine Mason), whom he still intended to eventually marry.

“There was one change after that where the console melted, and Liz was like, ‘Oh no, I just got engaged and he’s probably been trapped in there forever. “It was the only thing we removed diverse, Noting that the ending was otherwise created just “in case” the network chose to pull the plug.

However, Hollier was ready to do another season.

“I had to bet loose [the network] I had to get them to sign to let me [have Max] drifting away. And they’re saying, “Well, when is he coming back?” The next question was. They are our first audience. So, yeah, there was a plan actually, for how to round it up assuming Season 5 was going to be our last season,” he says. “We had some hop-up time actually telling stories that actually broke down into weeks. We actually wanted to stretch and jump to three different times over the next two years for all of our characters.”

He adds, “I’m so lucky for the time we had, but you always feel like we have another bullet in the room.”

Fortunately, the finale included key moments for some of the main characters, including Liz and Max. Throughout the episode, Max wrestled with whether he should return to Oasis without her. In the end, he had to go – and there was absolutely no plan to keep him. Simply put, it’s a TV show and there’s no drama in it.

“We left it open with a sense of optimism that allows people’s imaginations to fill in what happened next when he came back,” Hollier says.

Houllier also highlighted the wedding of Michael (Michael Flames) and Alex (Tyler Blackburn), a party that fans have long been anticipating. After they tied the knot, Michael performed Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be”, which was a perfect fit for several reasons.

“Look, we all have the ’90s to choose from! We’ve been trying to figure out the song, trying to figure out if there’s a perfect song for counting crows,” Hollier recalls. “I was also born out of a joke when [original showrunner] Karina [Adly MacKenzie] was on display. We kept joking if we couldn’t get a song, like, “I wonder what Edwin McCain is doing right now?” It kind of stayed in my head. I thought it was a fun way to honor that, too.”

Sherry Appleby, who played Liz in the original “Roswell” and made a cameo earlier in the series, is back for the episode to help Liz Ortega.

“This was always a plan. It’s a big part of the original Roswell. We wanted to try to tell a story with her and we wanted to honor our own Roswell and who Liz is. On the subject of mentorship, we thought she would be the ultimate mentor, because she was our mentor,” says Holler. . “Being with both Liz’s at dinner was a powerful moment. When I put the antennas on, it was a special moment on set.”
