Brendan Peter Schaub was born on March 18, 1983 in Aurora, Colorado to parents Debra and Peter Schaub. His mother was English, and his father was a second-degree black belt in taekwondo. Brendan went to Overland High School where he spent two years in lacrosse and one year in football.

Despite not having athletic scholarships, Brendan Schwab tried soccer and lacrosse at Whittier College and made both teams. Before his freshman year, he transferred to the University of Colorado to play football full time. Brendan went without drafting in the 2006 NFL Draft, but was selected by the Buffalo Bills as an unpolished rookie free agent where he landed on their coaching team for a brief period. He then signed with Utah Blazes of the AFL but was released without being on the roster. It was brought back in 2007 before being ceded again just two days later. Brendan Schwab retired from the sport the same year.

Brendan Schwab returned to Colorado after retiring from football and began training in boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. And after only six months of training, he entered an amateur boxing competition and won the Golden Gloves heavyweight title in the junior division in Colorado. He began his MMA career after meeting heavyweight competitor Shane Carwin and became friends and training partners. Schaub made his debut in 2008 against Jay Lester and started his career with a 4-0 record. He won the Ring of Fire heavyweight title by defeating Bojan Spalevic.

Schaub then signed on to the Ultimate Fighting Championship to compete in The Ultimate Fighter. Brendan won his first fight on the show in the first round against Demiko Rogers by surrendering. He went to the heavyweight final in what would be his first official UFC appearance, losing to Roy Nelson via KO. In March 2011, Brendan won by knockout of the night, defeating Mirko Filipovic. His last fight was a loss to Travis Brown in December of 2014 to take his MMA record to 10-5.

Brendan Schaub debuted on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast on October 10, 2015, to announce his retirement from MMA and became a regular guest on the show in the following years. He started a podcast with Brian Callen called “The Fighter and the Kid” before launching his solo podcast, “Big Brown Breakdown”. In 2018, Schaub partnered with Showtime and renamed his solo podcast “Under the Belt with Brendan Schaub”. In addition, Brendan and Theo Vaughn together created a podcast called “The Walsting King”. Schaub has also done some stand-up comedy and done some TV shows and movies. He has co-hosted the following shows for the ‘Golden Globes’, ‘Oscars’, ‘Emmy Awards’, ‘People’s Choice Awards’ and ‘Grammy Awards’. He had a role in the 2016 movie “Range 15” and played a role in David Ayer’s “The Tax Collector” in 2020.

Brendan Schaub has two sons with an old girlfriend, Joanna Zanella. He previously had a relationship with Ronda Rousey. After 14 years of training, Brendan was promoted to a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2021.
