Harris County Deputy Omar Ursin killed: Mother of slain HCSO deputy says community has stepped up to find son’s killer!

Harris County, Texas (KTRK) – The mother of the Harris County deputy sheriff who was shot and killed says the truth of her son’s loss has yet to come to light.

Deputy Precinct III Omar Ursin was driving to his home in Atascocita when the shooting occurred.

“I feel like a thread. A thread, like the thread of a kite, I feel like I’m holding on to the last thread before it rises into the air, because it is so heartbreaking that I no longer have my child,” said Yvonne Orsen.

She lost her eldest child and only son.

“We celebrated my son’s 37th birthday Friday night at Taste of Texas,” she said. “He sat on one end of the table, and his dad sat on the other end of the table, and we had a great time. No way, I thought I was going to celebrate my child’s last birthday.”

On August 28, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said someone shot Rep. Omar Orsen near the Madeira Run Parkway and Timber Forest at about 6:30 p.m., as he had just picked up food for his family.

Before leaving the house that day, he asked his mother if she wanted to go to the store.

“I doubt myself,” said Yvonne Orsen. I said: If I had let Omar take me to the store, would I have been with him in the car when that happened? “

As questions continued, Omar Orsin’s absence was acutely felt. The family reached out to the community to help support his young daughter.

“We don’t want her to change her life,” said Yvonne Orsen. “Just because she no longer has a father, we want to be able to make sure she’s happy and can do all these things to keep her young mind going.”

Yvonne Orsen said that people help financially through a GoFundMeand even telling the family everything they know about what happened.

“I really appreciate them,” she said, “because a lot of times people don’t like to be involved. But they come in and say what they’ve seen and what they can do.”

The mayor’s office said it was following all leads, and described the 6-year veteran’s loss as devastating. All this as his mother reconciles with life without her son.

“Every day, I look at his pictures from the time he was born until the time he left me,” said Yvonne Orsen. “Looking at that smile, I feel so relaxed today, I feel like this was just a bad dream and he’s coming to the door.”
