“Twenty years ago, on September 10, 2002, DICE and EA released Battlefield 1942, ushering in a new kind of first-person shooter – one that allowed you to take part in massive battles set in a WWII-themed sandbox. To the spectacles that we all know are only moments on the battlefield, Advertising From the Battlefield team reads.

Since its inception 20 years ago, Battlefield has gone through multiple locations and wars. Battlefield 1942, the first entry in the franchise, was set during World War II, followed by the release of a sequel two years later, which took the series into the Vietnam War and was aptly titled Battlefield Vietnam.

Then EA and DICE moved on to take the series across various places, such as the modern-day war between the US and China in Battlefield 2, World War I in Battlefield 1, and most recently in the near future in Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield is often seen as the biggest competitor to Activision’s Call of Duty series, which is arguably the biggest first-person shooter series ever. Unfortunately, lately, Battlefield has stumbled past the giant Activision franchise.

The latest installment in the series, Battlefield 2042, was released last year to huge criticism from fans and reviewers. It became the lowest rated installment in the entire series and even became one of the worst reviewed games on Steam when it was released to the public.

The developers recently stated that they are “all in” on Battlefield, expressing that they are “committed to unleashing its potential as one of the best first-person shooter franchises in the world.” Despite the recent criticism, the team remains optimistic, noting that “20 years is a huge achievement for any series, regardless of the industry. We have the ability to shape what comes next. We have the drive, passion and talent in place to build truly amazing experiences for players in the years.” coming.”
