Factory movie obstructs world rights with Colombia debut ‘El Otro Hijo’

Barcelona-based Film Factory Entertainment has acquired the global sales rights to “El Otro Hijo,” Colombia’s first feature film, Juan Sebastian Quebrada.

The production of Evidencia Films adds to the growing list of Colombian pickups produced by Film Factory, including last year’s landslide winner Premios Platino, “Memories of My Father” (“El Olvido que Seremos”) by Fernando Tropa. and “Kings of the World” Laura Mora, who is competing at the upcoming San Sebastian Film Festival and is part of Toronto’s Select Industry Division.

“Film Factory is excited to be on board. Colombian cinema is very strong and we are eager to discover new talents from the country. We think we found one in Juan Sebastian Quebrada,” said Vicente Canales of Factory diverse.

“El Otro Hijo” is a coming-of-age story about a teenager who falls in love with his younger brother’s ex-girlfriend after the sudden and unexpected death of his younger brother, and it is through this love that he finds the strength to fight.

Quibrada, who co-wrote the picture with one of Colombia’s best-selling writers, Maria Camila Arias (“Kings of the World,” “Clara Sola”) attended the Toronto Film Festival in 2017 with his short film “La Casa del Arbol.”

Franco Lolli of Evidencia Films and Director of Critics’ Week Can Litigante and Gente de Bien co-produced “El Otro Hijo” with French company Geko Films, three-winner César for Sheherazade and Argentine Le Tiro and Tresmilmundos Cine (Producer) One Week Alone” and “The Third Shore” with Martin Scorsese).

“Evidencia Films is delighted to work with Film Factory for the first time. They have proven themselves to be one of the best sales agents exporting new Latin American talents,” Luli said.

“El Otro Hijo” is the second collaboration between Evidencia Films and Quebrada after his short film “La Casa del Arbol”.

The film was selected to participate in four workshops during its development: Taller 3 Puertos Cine, Cinélatino, San Sebastian Co-Production Forum, and Sam Spiegel Film Lab in Jerusalem. She has also received grants from Proimágenes Colombia and CNC’s Aide aux cinemas du Monde in France.

Currently in production, due to be completed by May 2023.
