The Edge of History has a plan to bring back Nicolas Cage

While fans shouldn’t expect to see Nicolas Cage appear as Benjamin Gates in the first season of National Treasure: The Edge of HistoryShowrunner Cormac Wibberley recently confirmed that a tentative plan is in place to see Cage return in Season 2. The series’ initial plan was to feature Cage and Diane Kruger’s narrative return in a limited capacity, but those plans never ended together. In this regard, edge of history It certainly unfolds in the same reality as the previous national treasure movies, but fans shouldn’t expect there to be a lot of connective tissue in the narrative in season one. when talking with Entertainment WeeklyWibberley compared Cage’s Ben and Lisette Olivera Jess as being like the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cage would have appeared in Season 2.

“This is how we would have seen the relationship if Ben Gates ever showed up,” Webberley shared with the outlet. “It’s basically Peter Parker for him and she’ll say, ‘Oh, my God, it’s Ben Gates! What do I do? “This is how our world is. We’d like to bring in any of the other veterans if we get another season. We have roles for each of them.”

Understandably, with Olivera entering an iconic franchise and needing to be the focal point of the narrative following the acclaim of Cage and the original films, this brought with it both opportunities and challenges.

“It’s a scary idea that you have to follow the performance of someone like Nick Cage,” Oliveira explained to the outlet. “It was hard, but I kept trying to reframe and focus as if it was just a challenge. I really loved the movies, and no part of me wanted to stray from what they had already created. It was the same voices behind the movies – same producers, same writers, Trevor Rabin, composer For the movies, he came back to do our show too – so I knew I was in good hands. They guided me, especially when I had doubts as to what I was capable of.”

While the franchise has pivoted to Disney+, we can’t rule out a third movie entirely, as series producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared earlier this summer that a script had been passed to Cage for a possible third sequel.
